Decades-old temperature record broken in chilly Merritt

A decades-old temperature record has been broken in Merritt.

Environment Canada said a low of -5.6ºC was logged in the area on Wednesday.

The previous record low was -3.9ºC, set in 1935.

Records have been kept in the area since 1918.

Elsewhere, the Tatlayoko Lake area also recorded a record low.

It saw a low of -9.3ºC, beating the previous record of -8ºC set in 1988.

Records have been kept in that area since 1930.

According to Environment Canada’s forecast this morning, a high of 21ºC is expected in Merritt on Friday.

Tatlayoko Lake, meanwhile, is expected to see a high of 16ºC.
