Raptor Nation Dominates Twitter Canada

The Toronto Raptors are storming social media after Sunday’s road win over the Brooklyn Nets, to even their best-of-seven series at 2 games apiece. They haven’t won anything yet, but the incredible exhibition of effort put forth by the Raps Sunday, was enough to send #WeTheNorth trending in the top spot on Twitter Canada.

Originally deemed a “rebuilding year” for the Raptors, they have managed not just to silence their critics, but they’ve completely drowned them out with the voices of their roaring fan base, which is only going to get louder!

Even Raptors all-star shooting guard Demar Derozan taunted the Barclays Center boo birds as he walked off the court, the look of victory strewn across his face.

The win reclaimed home-court advantage for the Raps, who will return home to the ACC for two of the next three games (if necessary), and if things continue the way they are going, Nets fans will be able to hear Raptors Square from Brooklyn, whose coveted bridge already bears the tag of the Raptors faithful.

The Raptors were up by 15 points for much of the first half of game four, but allowed the Nets to rally in the third, and take the lead in the fourth. Toronto’s star point guard Kyle Lowry played with as much heart as you would find on any basketball court in the NBA. Lowry was nursing a knee injury that saw him limping throughout the game, and flirting with expulsion after getting into serious foul trouble early on.

The amazing effort by Lowry, Derozan was indeed impressive. But the bench was relied upon heavily as well, with Landry Fields sidelined with an injury, defense, rebounding and turnovers were all improved upon in game four, largely the result of a complete team effort.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was even impressed by the gutsy display put on by the entire team.

Demar Derozan had an unbelievable 20 point first half for the Raptors, who held on for the all-important game 4 win, that would have seen them either tie the series, or go down three games to one; a massive difference in potential from a playoff standpoint.

Raptor fans from across Canada and the United States are rallying, for themselves and for their team. Bandwagon jumping or not, the Raptors have proven through their impressive entourage of supporters, that they worth getting excited about. The Raptors haven’t made the post-season in six years, they have the most expensive playoff tickets in the NBA, and every game is still sold out. Game five tickets will be nearly impossible to come by, but fans will fill the ACC and Raptors Square on Wednesday April 30^th to cheer on Toronto, as they fight their way along the path to Canadian basketball immortality.
