Rockets Raised $10,000 for Breast Cancer at Wednesday's Game

The Kelowna Rockets wore one-of-a-kind pink jerseys for their Wednesday night game, held at the Prospera Place, in order to raise awareness and donations for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Rockets club raised over $10,000 by raffling off their pink hockey jerseys; the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation was holding their own fundraiser as well, selling pink pucks.

As the team gears up for a challenging tournament on the weekend, the Rockets are confident and proud to boast about their victory over Tri-City on Wednesday with a four to nil score.

“This was a great night for our fans and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation,” said Rockets Director of Marketing Anne-Marie Hamilton. “We’re proud to partner with these two groups, and together with our fans, help such a great cause.”

On the ice, the Rockets earned themselves a Western Hockey League best of the season with a 11-1-0-0 win over Tri-City. The team welcomes the challenge of competing against top team, the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday.

It will be a battle of the two highest scoring teams in the league. Brandon leads the way with 66 goals scored while Kelowna is second with 62. The next highest scoring team is Kamloops with 51 on the season.

“This is going to be a great test for us,” said Rockets General Manager Bruce Hamilton. “Brandon is off to a great start. This will be the best team we have seen yet this year.”

The Rockets have showcased their offensive skills so far this year with star players Tyson Baillie (12 goals in 12 games), Nick Merkley (three goals and 17 assists in 12 games). Rockets captain, Madison Bowey leads all WHL blue-liners with 16 points in 10 games while Riley Stadel is tied for the league lead in goals by a defenceman with six.

The Wheat Kings are holding onto their winning streak title, which began with a seven to four win over the Prince George Cougars on Wednesday. Brandon plays in Kamloops Friday night before meeting Kelowna on Saturday.
