Vees Claim Second Consecutive Win Over Warriors

It was not a night of redemption for the West Kelowna Warriors Saturday evening as they took on the Penticton Vees for a second time. Patrick Newell claimed three goals for the Vees, helping to bring the team to victory with a 7-2 score at the Royal LePage Place.

Saturday night's win was the team's consecutive win over the Warriors, after claiming a 4-2 victory on Friday.

Despite the loss, the Warriors played hard but some sloppy giveaways and bad bounces in front of rookie netminder, Mike Lenko, led to four Penticton goals in the third period.

Shorthanded breakaways claimed a couple of goals for the Warriors, scored early on in the second period by Jason Cotton and midway through third period by Brett Mennear.

Scoring for the Vees, Taylor Ward, Steen Cooper, Connor Chartier, and Dakota Conroy had their shots on net as well.

"I thought we were okay through about the first 30 (minutes) for the most part. The chances were about even and a couple of unfortunate bounces," said Warriors head coach Rylan Ferster. “But we gave up too many to expect to win tonight.”

Penticton jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period before the Warriors finally got on the board. Cotton slammed in a rebound shot from the low slot two minutes into the second period, bringing the score up to 2-1.

Both teams were doing well heading into the third period, but then Penticton scored three late goals, gaining the advantage over the Warriors.

The back-to-back defeats leaves the Warriors third in the Interior Division, six points behind Vernon, and only slightly above Merritt.

The Warriors will be off for the Christmas break and won't be back on the ice until December 28th in Trail.

The first home game for the Warriors will be on Tuesday, December 30th against Trail.
