Team Canada has something to smile about after destroying Slovakia 8-0 in the opener for the 2015 IIHG World Junior Championship on Friday night.
Robby Fabbri, who plays for the Guelph Storm in the Ontario Hockey League, was the high scorer of the night, making two goals and two assists. The Rockets' own Madison Bowey had an assist for the third goal of the game in the first period.

Team Canada opened up the scoring at 4:52 into the first period with a goal from Fabbri. Less than three minutes later, Anthony Duclair scored the second goal of the night, and Fabbri made it 3-0 just 52 seconds later.
The second period was the high point for Team Canada, with a total of four goals scored by Nick Paul, Brayden Point, Max Domi, and Nic Petan. The only goal of the third was by Jake Virtanen, making it 8-0 for Team Canada.
The Canadian goalie, Zach Fucale, had a 12-save shutout for his first shutout in his sixth World Juniors start. Slovakia made it hardest for Fucale in the second, where he made five of his 12 saves.
This game marked the 16th consecutive year that Team Canada has opened the World Juniors with a win, starting in 1999 vs. Slovakia. Canada plays again on Saturday night, facing off against Germany at 5 p.m. PT at the Bell Centre.
