A local documentary filmmaker who gained local notoriety when she detailed the life of Corral regular Arnie Davis has again put her talents to work.

Chelsea McEvoy is introducing the community to a very special group called Accessible Okanagan. The group consists of people with physical disabilities and began with just two members. Over the past five years James Hektner and Anand Kannan have seen their group balloon to more than 200 members.
Unlike some other peer support groups Accessible Okanagan works as family unit, says McEvoy.
“They do everything together from sports to BBQ’s to parties,” said McEvoy. “They have changed my perspective on people in wheelchairs and are the most encouraging, fun and inspiring group I have ever met.”

Last year Hektner had the dream to take as many people as possible to Whistler for a weekend of fun and adventure. After nearly a year of hard work that dream came true and through fundraising efforts over 30 people in wheelchairs went bungee jumping, zip lining and experienced the peek to peek gondola.
McEvoy documented the trip and hopes it inspires others to see past those with disabilities and recognize the possibilities.
