2015-06-10 18:00:00 2015-06-10 16:00:00 America/Vancouver Food Flicks: Spring Edition “Eat. Drink. Watch. Discuss” is the tagline for a new event coming to Kelowna on Wednesday, June 10th. FoodFlicks is a new event presented by FarmFolk CityFolk in partnership with Slow Food Thompson Okanagan and the Culinary Arts program at Okanagan College. Designed to pair insightful films with food, wine and discussion, the event will be held in Spring and Fall each year.  This first FoodFlicks event is themed around Bees and will be held at Okanagan College Theatre on the Kelowna Campus. Attendees will enjoy honey-themed hors d'oeuvres prepared by students of the Culinary Arts program using honey from Arlo’s Honey Farm, taste honey wines from Meadow Vista Honey Winery and watch a multi award-winning documentary. “QUEEN OF THE SUN: What Are the Bees Telling Us?” is a profound, alternative look at the global bee crisis. This spellbinding film explores the long-term causes that have led to one of our most urgent global food crises, illuminating the deep link between humans and bees. The story unveils 10,000 years of beekeeping, highlighting how that historic and sacred relationship has been lost. Inspiring and entertaining, QUEEN OF THE SUN uncovers the problems and solutions in renewing a culture in balance with nature. After the film, a facilitated discussion will bring ideas raised in the film into context for our region. Panelists from local organizations will answer questions and give practical advice on how to help the bees in the Okanagan.  Support for the event comes from Valley First, Kelowna Insta-Print, Arlo’s Honey farm, Meadow Vista Wines, Bees Incorporated as well as the lead partner organizations. Tickets to this evening are $20 and can be bought online at www.picatic.com/foodflicks. Okanagan College, Theatre, 1000 KLO Road 1000 KLO Road events@kelownanow.com
