1969-12-31 16:00:00 1969-12-31 16:00:00 America/Vancouver Ink Belly: Printmaking at UBCO The Front project space March 14 to April 12, 2015 Sage Sidley, Can’t Even, 2014, monotype print, 8 x 10 in. The Kelowna Art Gallery and the University of British Columbia Okanagan are pleased to present this exhibition of prints created by UBCO printmaking students. Printmaking at the University of British Columbia Okanagan is alive and well and turning a new generation of artists on to the potential of art in the 21st century. At first glance, printmaking can seem to be old fashioned. Interestingly, however, print media are relative newcomers to the pantheon of art making, being far newer than painting, drawing, or sculpture. The students in this exhibition have all recently entered the world of printmaking and are making the most of it. They have thrown themselves into these new media and are often, quite literally, covered with ink while they are working, which might partially explain the title of this exhibition. There is both rigour of intent and rigour of execution here. Closing Reception Friday, April 10, 7 to 9 pm This reception will be held in conjunction with the opening reception for Mitch Mitchell: For Whom You Build. This is a free event, open to members and guests by invitation. Kelowna Art Gallery, 1315 Water Street 1315 Water Street events@kelownanow.com
