Christmas Light Display Back in Kerry Park

A popular Christmas light display that once drew thousands of people to West Kelowna will once again be lit up near downtown Kelowna for all to enjoy.

The Rotary Festival of Lights will go on display in Kerry Park beginning December 6th, 2014 as the Rotary Clubs of Kelowna once again has the go ahead to set it up. The display was donated to the Rotary Clubs by resident Jerry Budnick putting an end to the 13 years it had been on display at his home in Bridgeview Road in West Kelowna. Budnick stopped the display because the process was becoming too cumbersome for him.

The Clubs took over the light display in 2013 and thanks to a grant by the City of Kelowna and help from local businesses, the lights found a new home in Kerry Park. Once again members will come together to create the display and set it up for all to enjoy.

“We’re busy right now setting up the display and correcting any problems or situations with it that need to be done so that it is ready to go,” said Rotary Clubs member Lockie Bracken. “We hope to set it up in time for the light up display that will occur in Kerry Park on December 6th."

The light display needs sponsors in order to run and maintain and the Rotary is asking residents or local businesses to help out and make sure the Christmas light tradition continues.

“We are gathering sponsors and we have several sponsors to date but we continue to ask for additional sponsors,” adds Bracken. “The Downtown Kelowna Association is helping us a bit with the original light up and volunteers will staff the display.”

The lights are expected to be on display daily from around 4:00 until around 11:00 p.m. until January 1st, 2015. All six Okanagan Rotary Clubs are active in helping to maintain and staff the display, strictly as volunteers.

“We would encourage anyone who is interested in assisting with our set up, which we are doing now in an Argus building which they are allowing for free, to contact me and we can work something out,” said Bracken.

Anyone interested in volunteering their time or becoming a sponsor of the Rotary Festival of Lights can do so by contacting Bracken at 250-869-5432. Corporate sponsors will have a sign on the display indicating they are a sponsor.
