Christine Lwowski

What do you always find yourself saying?
Everything happens, not for a reason, but to teach us a lesson. We just have to be open to seeing the lesson.

If you were to receive any existing public award, what award would you like to win?
Recognition is nice, but not what really gets me lit up. Frankly, I am not even really familiar with current public awards that are out there. Maybe I can create my own award? It would be something to recognize the passion for helping families take control of their finances

Who inspires you?
My son. He is three years old and so full of life and wonderment and he only knows to be true to himself and remain genuine and authentic in all situations. I work hard as a mother to keep that alive in him and he inspires me to bring these elements into my own world every day.

What are three things on your bucket list?
I don’t really have a bucket list as I try to live daily doing things that I love, however, I always do dream of taking the time to travel to Europe, Asia and South America (Basically I want to see the world!)

If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?
Because I get seasick (learnt this on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia) and therefore don’t enjoy being on the water for lengthy periods of time, I would keep my yacht docked and call her LAND! HO!

If you could foresee a single day of your future in its entirety, what date would you select?
Not a chance, I love that every single day is a surprise!

What are you passionate about?
Helping people in any way that I can, personally or through my business.

What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?
December 15, 2011 – the day when my husband and I welcomed our son into the world.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Being a mother. Nothing in the world can beat that for me.

Where is your favourite place to dine in Kelowna? What do you like about it?
I love Momo Sushi. Joseph and Peter have two awesome locations that always make me feel at home. I always leave with a full belly and on budget.

What is your favourite activity or event in Kelowna? Why?
Tough question, we have such a great community for events. Really, not sure that I could pick just one as a favourite... but as a family we sure do enjoy the Uptown Rutland Scarecrow Festival.

What is the name of your business/organization?
I am a financial advisor with Sun Life Financial

What does your business/organization do?
I have a holistic approach to the work that I do, no – not like in a hippy way, but rather looking at all aspects of life and the way that your finances are or can be impacted. I work closely with families and business owners to stop living paycheck to paycheck, to help them understand why they spend and/or save the way they do, and to create a down to earth, achievable plan that provides peace of mind with the implementation of insurance and investment strategy & product while keeping focus on their goals and desires for their futures.

What is your mission?
My mission is to educate and empower people when it comes to their finances.

If you could achieve one thing within your field, what would it be?
To change the belief systems that many have around insurance.

Where do you want your business/organization to be in five years?
I want to be hosting my monthly workshops and bring in Gail Vaz Oxlade as a guest speaker to the Okanagan. She inspires me a great deal.

What three qualities do you feel that your business/organization exemplifies?
Compassion, Leadership and a very human and down to earth approach with what can be some very scary things to talk about.

How does your business/organization impact the community?
Our entire society would operate on a completely different level if people could feel confident rather than intimidated by their financials. This is why I focus so much on education. With education comes confidence.

If I could change one thing about Kelowna, it would be:
Having more turning lights to get onto and off of the highway would be nice.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The people! I find that Kelowna attracts people with a strong sense of family values and also people that love the outdoors... two very important things to me.

My choice for the Kelowna In Focus spotlight is:
Aaron Marsh from Compass Mortgage Group. He is an excellent mortgage broker with wonderful family values who works very hard for his clients.
