What is your name?
Kristen Carrier

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select and why?
My fiancé Jesse Moore, he is the backbone of Lavender and Lace Floral Farm. He believes in me and gives me strength in the moments that I need it most. One of my business goals is to grow and structure the business in a way that we can work together every day.

Who inspires you?
I am really inspired by all small business owners. It takes a lot of courage and determination to start a business and that ability to trust that your ideas are great ones is very admirable.

What are three things on your bucket list?
Marry Jesse in a small intimate ceremony with family and friends.
Buy a house on a property large enough to grow flowers on.
Take an extended camping trip along the Oregon coast.

If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?
I would never want a yacht, so I would sell it and buy a farm instead!

What are you passionate about?
I am really passionate about introducing my community to an alternative flower option that is more environmentally sustainable. Farm to table is not only an essential movement within the food industry but it is a movement that is beginning to gather momentum within the flower industry. I also teach and practice yoga, which continues to be my constant reminder of what, is true and important in this life.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
When our first seeds sprouted and then flowered a few weeks later have both been really amazing moments in this business.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Lavender and Lace Floral Farm

What does your business/organization do?
We grow flowers and foliage in an environmentally sustainable way on a historical farm on Gordon Drive in Kelowna. We want to offer brides and everyday flower buyers beautiful arrangements filled with unique varieties, whether we have grown them or sourced them through a wholesaler. Lavender and Lace is a modern take on a traditional flower farm and we grow sweet peas, zinnias, cosmos, dahlias, a large variety of herbs and others as well. Designing arrangements for weddings is what we specialize in it’s so rewarding to get to be a part of a couples vision for their wedding day. We also have a Frequent Flower program, which is a weekly/biweekly arrangement pick up or delivery service, it allows having fresh flowers in your home or business an accessible and affordable luxury.

Where can people find you or your business online?
lavenderandlace.ca

Where can people find your business on Facebook?
lavender and Lace

What is your mission?
To grow the most beautiful flowers while harmony with nature, while delivering freshness, sustainability and seasonality.

Where do you want your business/organization to be in five years?
In five years we will be living on our own farm and we will be growing flowers on our property. We will have learnt and grown a lot as farmers and florists. I would love to be able to share my knowledge and love for growing and designing by eventually holding workshops on the farm.

Who do you consider to be a forerunner within your field?
Erin Benzakein from Floret Flower Farm in the Skagit Valley. She is amazing!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
I would love to have started a family, and at be at the point in this business to have hired a few employees. We will have a cabin on a beautiful lake somewhere and maybe be on our way to starting another business.

What do you value most in people? friends?
When I was younger I felt the need to have a large circle of friends around me, but as I have grown up that circle has become more refined in the most amazing way. I appreciate people who are constantly working on themselves and who see the importance in that. Compassion and honesty are really important qualities to me as well. And of course fun and great conversation!

Tell us about a defining moment in your life.
I wouldn’t say there has been one moment, but a lot of moments got me to the point where I decided to start Lavender and Lace Floral Farm and leave the security my full time job. It was a terrifying, exciting and absolutely a defining time in my life.

What makes you successful? Tell us about it.
I believe 100 per cent that the more work you do on yourself the more success you will have in all areas of your life. So taking time to read meaningful books and articles, practicing yoga, breathing and truly enjoying life will always bring me success.
