Andrew Pitre is a family man who is constantly inspired and motivated to be the best father he can. While not busy running after his two year old son Andrew can be found giving back to the community and working to make Kelowna even better than it is. If that doesn’t sound like a lot Andrew is also a chartered accountant who runs a successful business called PDC Business and Tax Chartered Accountants. Andrew’s business has been growing steadily and is known for helping small businesses in the community. Today Andrew Pitre of PDC Business and Tax Chartered Accountants is In Focus.

What do you always find yourself saying?
It would have been easier to help you if you had consulted me before you made that decision.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select and why?
Wayne Gretzky – What is there to say – he is the Great One – Aside from being an incredible hockey player he seems like a genuine person and is a fantastic role model. A great Canadian and someone I have looked up to since I was kid.

Who inspires you?
My 2 year old son James. He inspires me to be the best father and person I can be and motivates me to make our community and the world around us a better place for all.

What are three things on your bucket list?
Cycle the French Pyrénées
Attend a game 7 Stanley cup final
Touring Europe to at the very best restaurants.

If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?
Sea Ya

If you could foresee a single day of your future in its entirety, what date would you select?
I do not wish to see any day in my future. Life is all about taking it day by day and experiencing the unexpected.

What are you passionate about?
I am extremely passionate about my work and my business; and I am just as passionate about my family. I had no idea how incredible it would be to become a father and watch my wife develop into the amazing mother that she is.

What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?
The day our son James was born.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Obtaining my CA designation and starting a successful CA practice

Where is your favourite place to dine in Kelowna? What do you like about it?
As of today I would have to say Waterfront Wines. The food is great and it gives me a chance to catch up with my favorite bartender Grant Biggs.

What is your favourite activity or event in Kelowna? Why?
Devour – I have only been once but for someone that enjoys and is passionate about food, this event really brings it.

PDC Business & Tax was created by merging my previous accounting firm Pitre James & Co. with Dome Duong Chartered Accountant. Collaborating with Dome and creating a new office together we feel that we’re able to provide a great environment for staff and for clients. Our focus is to help individuals and business’ minimize their taxes and grow their business’ We look forward to the new opportunities and challenges that our clients present to us.

What is your mission?
To provide high quality professional services to our clients and do so with integrity and honesty.

If you could achieve one thing within your field, what would it be?
I want grow a practice that can succeed me and continue to prosper under new leadership when I am no longer here. Achieving this level of stability is more important to me than any personal accolade.

Where do you want your business/organization to be in five years?
PDC Business & Tax is in a growth phase. We are currently looking for new clients. We are passionate about helping small business’ understand the tax regime they operate in so that they can take advantage of all the benefits available to them. Ultimately we would like to grow our practice so that our younger staff can grow into more senior roles while at the same time continue to develop and train new staff.

Who do you consider to be a forerunner within your field?
In my opinion Crowe MacKay is a forerunner. I worked with them when I moved to Kelowna in 2008 and was impressed by the level of professionalism and focus they put on serving their clients and the community. It is these strengths I look up to and that I have tried to employ in my practice.

What three qualities do you feel that your business/organization exemplifies?
1. Putting our client’s needs first.
2. Communicating with our clients so they understand the process.
3. Consideration of the impact our decisions have on our staff and our community.

What would you like to say to your employees/volunteers?
Thank you. Thank you for all your hard work. Without our staff the growth the firm has experienced, and continues to experience, would not be possible.

How does your business/organization impact the community?
Our work as accountants and tax advisors may not have a direct impact in the community. But the work we do as volunteers with not-for-profit organizations and community groups does. As a partner of PDC it is important for me to be involved in the community and my membership with Rotary allows me to play a role in strengthening the community through Rotary initiatives.

If I could change one thing about Kelowna, it would be:
The density and liveability of downtown. Kelowna has come a long way in the 6 short years since I became a resident but I would love to see the downtown core continue to grow. I believe that can be achieved by continuing to encourage people to live in the downtown core.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The weather and its natural surroundings. You can’t beat living at the lake and getting to enjoy our hot summers. In the winter its’ not too cold but cold enough to guarantee some really great snow in the mountains. So in my opinion we have the best of both worlds, summer paradise and winter wonderland ski retreats.

My choice for the Kelowna In Focus spotlight is:
I would have to nominate Jessica Turanec Brix. I don’t know Jessica well but every time her name comes up it seems to be associated with some sort of community or charitable fundraising initiative. She always seems to be giving back. I think that’s pretty great.
