In Focus | Marika Wolf of Marika Wolf

In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses and organizations that help make our city great. The team at KelownaNow.com is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.

What is your name?
Marika Wolf

What do you always find yourself saying?
“I have a great idea!”

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select and why?
My husband – these days it is very rare for us to spend a full, alone day with just the two of us

If you were to receive any existing public award, what award would you like to win?
BDC Young Entrepreneur Award

If you could spend a day with any historical figure, who would you choose and why?
Princess Diana. Diana was just such a beautiful example of a kind, beautiful and powerful woman. Her work as the Princess of Wales was all about the people; people all over the world. Her charity work resulted in awareness of all kinds of issues from east to west. She has a soft-goodness that the world fell in love with and it would be an absolute honour to spend a day with her.

Who inspires you?
My son Nikolas and my husband Craig inspire me to be the best I can be everyday; at work, at home – at everything!

What are three things on your bucket list?
To travel the world on a boat with my husband
To Skydive
To be present for my children’s weddings and birth of their kids!

If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?
“Pinch Me” To remind myself, as I travel the world with my husband, this is not a dream. A reminder of what we have accomplished in life to have such an enormous yacht!

If you could foresee a single day of your future in its entirety, what date would you select?
December 30th 2018 – when my 5 year plan will be well in effect! Also, my son will be turning 6 this day.

What are you passionate about?
Helping people, and bringing people together along the way! I practice my passion everyday with my family, friends, and my clients.

What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?
My wedding day has been my favorite day so far. The wedding brought two fabulous families together and taught me a lot about what and who is important in life. I was able to share our special day with THE MOST important people in my life. One of my happiest days that’s for sure.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Becoming a mom!

Where is your favourite place to dine in Kelowna? What do you like about it?
RauDZ – the atmosphere is so inviting and fun. One of our favorite things to do is sit at the bar for cocktails before dinner -– the bartenders are so skilled and always surprise us with their amazing concoctions. The food is terrific and to top it off my mother in law did the interior design.

What is your favourite activity or event in Kelowna? Why?
One particular event I am truly proud to be a part of is the Heart and Stroke foundations Red Dress Event. This year marks our 3rd year and we are going strong inspiring women to share their experiences with heart disease and stroke, and educate other women to do the same. Heart disease kills 7 times more women that breast cancer does. Heart Disease is a leading cause of death for Canadian women, and yet many are not aware of this threat. Working with the Heart and Stroke foundation on the Red Dress event helps raise the much needed awareness about heart disease and stroke here in Kelowna. There is still time to purchase tickets to the show!

What is the name of your business/organization?
Marika Wolf - Okanagan Real Estate

What does your business/organization do?
My business is selling real estate in the Okanagan. I provide real estate services to families moving to and within Kelowna. My job is to handle the entire transaction of purchasing/selling your home as smoothly as possible so the process has minimal interference with your day-to-day life. Life is full. I get it.
My job starts by listening to your needs and matching my real estate services to your lifestyle. Have kids? Bring them to my office – I have coloring books and blocks for them to play with. Need me to come to Johnny’s hockey game to sign some paper work? I’ll be there! Live out of town? I am as tech savvy as they come, and I’ll teach you how to use the electronic tools necessary to have a great client/realtor relationship with me and save lots of time. My job is to make the moving process comfortable and easy for everyone; for mom, for dad, for the kids, and even for Rufus the German shepherd.
A house is just a building and it takes more than paint and furnishings to make it a home. You, my client, are what make that house a home and it’s your family, your job, your desire to cook, your love of books, your kids’ love of outdoor fun in the backyard, and the little ones’ chalk drawings on the front sidewalk that makes the next house you purchase a home. This is why nearby schools are important, why walking to the grocery store is a must, why a large back yard is what you need, and why getting on the highway as quick as possible is the best thing for your lifestyle. I am here to get to know you and your lifestyle so I can find you the perfect house that you can turn into your home.

What is your mission?
My goal is to be more than your real estate agent. My goal is to help you find a great place to call home and find a great life within your community. The Okanagan lifestyle is here for everyone – some just need a little help in finding it.

If you could achieve one thing within your field, what would it be?
I would like to be recognized as a role model and leader for up and coming real estate agents, especially young women.

Where do you want your business/organization to be in five years?
In five years I want to be doing the same thing I am doing now but running a paperless office of 2 – 5 agents following my mission to help families buy and sell real estate in Kelowna while finding them community.

Who do you consider to be a forerunner within your field?
I consider my office, Lake Okanagan Realty, a forerunner in real estate. We are ‘boutique’, and have an intimate connection with our clients, offering them a small team environment that covers all of their needs in real estate. We have set a level of service that ensures the highest quality for our clients which we uphold every day. By making our clients’ real estate priorities ours, we make our clients feel confident about their choice for agents.

What three qualities do you feel that your business/organization exemplifies?
Loyalty, transparency, and creativity

What would you like to say to your employees/volunteers?
Darn - I don’t have any employees yet

How does your business/organization impact the community?
Through my business I bring community to the people I help in real estate, and in turn, they bring their uniqueness to our community. The more the merrier!

If you were trapped in an elevator with several wealthy investors from any field, which field would you want them to be experts in? What would say to them/talk about?
I love listening to all things real estate. I would enjoy the ride down and listen very carefully to what they were saying – maybe even ask a question or two about the right ways to go about real estate developments and investing like the big leagues do.

If I could change one thing about Kelowna, it would be:
I would add a few escalators. Maybe one at Earls to start

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The real estate, the beaches, the lake, the weather, the people, the business community, the organizations that help the less fortunate, the wineries, the golf, oh and did I mention the weather?

My choice for the Kelowna In Focus spotlight is:
Jorin Wolf – Jorin Wolf Interior Design and Jessica Samuels - Heart and Stroke Foundation Kelowna

Some general comments I would like to share are:
Thank you for this opportunity in allowing me to share my life and work with the people of Kelowna. I try my best to provide an exceptional experience for those who are a part of my life whether it is through family, friendship or community. Being able to share my story is truly a very happy ending. Thank you!
