Starting Sunday, August 31, parents can register for the promised $40 per student for every day students are not in school because of upcoming September strike action.
The Temporary Education Support for Parents (TESP) is a measure by the government to support parents with children twelve years or younger in paying additional day care or learning costs during the current labour disruption.
Payments for this program will be made in a single mailed cheque, and the government says that most these of will be processed within 30 days after the month that the strike concludes. Once enrolment for the 2014/2015 school year is confirmed, payments for students entering kindergarten or students new to B.C. public schools will be made.
Parents and primary caregivers may register online. Those without access to internet can call 1-877-387-3332 or 250-387-3332. This payment will be non-taxable and will not affect provincial or federal tax credits.
