The family of a Hope woman who was killed in a car accident in Oregon last Friday will be able to bury their daughter thanks to the kindness of strangers.
Janelle Lawlor was killed in a single vehicle accident that occurred between North Powder and Baker City in the early morning hours. There were five people in the vehicle and according to Oregon police the accident occurred when 20 year old Port Moody resident Brandon Goeders fell asleep at the wheel. Lawlor was the front passenger in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, while three female passengers were rushed to hospital. All five people in the car were using seatbelts when the car rolled on the pavement and went off the highway.
Unfortunately Lawlor did not have travel insurance while on the trip and the cost to have her transported back to BC for a burial service will cost the family $15,000. Lawlor was on her way to Utah to celebrate her 20th birthday, which took place the day of the accident.

A Go Fund Me page was started on Sunday to help raise funds for the family and in one day more than 300 people have donated more than $20,000 for the family.
“Wow, the generosity of all you beautiful people is nothing short of amazing,” reads the go fund me page. “We have raised our goal in one day and still receiving donations. I am going to keep this running as it would be great to help this wonderful family with funeral costs, the costs of going to Oregon etc.”
“As I sit here with tears flowing down my cheeks I think of my sweet granddaughter gone forever,” said her grandmother Bev Lawlor. “Her grandfather is with her right now and we are struggling trying to figure out how to get her home from Oregon for those who have donated and are about to, my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you. May you all be blessed for your help at the most horrible time of our life.”
No charges will be laid as there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol, and driver error is being blamed for the accident.
