A BC mom who complained about children’s Halloween costume’s that were inappropriate and sexual in nature has seen them pulled from store shelves.
Victoria mom Raina Delisle was upset to see that skimpy costumes were being sold at Value Village and her complaints were heard by the company. Delisle went to the local Value Village store to find her four year old daughter a firefighter costume and was shocked by what she found. The pre-schooler’s costumes differed between boys and girls Delisle noted. She was disgusted with the girl’s costume as they were skin tight, shiny and resembled nothing like a real firefighter’s uniform.

Delisle’s complaints went viral after local media picked up on the story and Value Village has issued a statement in response.
“Every year, we select our Halloween inventory based on feedback and demand from shoppers,” said Sara Gaugl, Director of Communications. “We’ve taken the recent comments surrounding certain Halloween costumes sold in our stores very seriously, and as such, are removing this merchandise from our sales floors. We apologize to those who were offended, and as we move forward, we will evaluate all costumes and packaging keeping this specific customer feedback in mind.”

Now with the sexualized costumes gone Delisle has committed to returning to Value Village to purchase a new Halloween costume for her daughter, but this time she is going in search of a “cupcake superhero” instead.
So glad I can go back to @SaversVVillage tomorrow to get a cape for my preschooler's cupcake-superhero #halloweencostume. #WhatATreat
