$24 Million in Project Funding Available for B.C.'s Artists

A friendly reminder to all creative Kelowna citizens, there are only a few weeks left to apply for the provincial art assistance grant. Eligible and professional visual artists, craft artists, and independent critics and curators living in British Columbia have until November 17th, 2014 to apply for project assistance from the B.C. Arts Council.

Awards are available to support the creation of new specific works. Applicants may be eligible individuals or a collaboration of two or more practitioners who share creative control of a project.

In addition to the residency requirements, applicants cannot be enrolled in a full-time studies program and they must have completed at least a two year basic training program in a professional artistic practice.

Professional artist status is defined by the provincial government as having had two or more professionally crafted exhibitions. Such a professional exhibition would have garnered funds from the event.

Independent curators or critics must have curated two or more exhibitions or professionally published two or more works of critical writing for which they have also received professional fees.

For complete program details, visit the B.C. Arts Council website.

B.C. Arts Council is the province's lead agency for arts funding and development. Grants are awarded based on peer assessment from the province's arts and culture community.

A substantial amount of funding is available for those who apply. In 2014-2015, government is investing $60 million overall in British Columbia's arts and culture sectors, with $24 million being allocated to the B.C. Arts Council.
