Settlement Reached in Moore-Bertuzzi Case

After ten years, a settlement has been reached in the Moore-Bertuzzi litigation before the court battle was set to begin in September.

The two sides appear to have reached an agreement, though it has yet to be officially announced. Terms of settlement are unlikely to be disclosed, but Steve Moore was seeking $68-million in damages.

On March 8, 2004 by Todd Bertuzzi, then a member of the Vancouver Canucks, punched Colorado Avalanche Steve Moore from behind, causing a dangerous pileup and numerous fights. There has since been a series of legal and medical disputes leading up to September's court date.

Moore suffered three broken vertebrae and a concussion in the incident and was removed from the ice on a stretcher. He never played in the NHL again, and Bertuzzi was traded from the Canucks in 2007 as a part of the Roberto Luongo deal.

Two weeks prior to the incident, fellow teammate and then captain of the Canucks, Markus Naslund, was struck with a questionable hit by Moore. Following that game, Bertuzzi vowed to get retribution on Moore.

Bertuzzi played for the Detroit Red Wings during the 2013-2014 season, but is currently without a contract for the upcoming season.
