Calgary Radio Station Cuts Songs in Half so People Don't Get Bored

A Calgary radio station has redefined how conventional stations play music as it adapts to our ever so short attention spans.

Quickhitz was unveiled in Calgary on 90.3 AMP and it offers listeners twice as many songs per hour than the conventional station. Shortened versions of popular songs are edited down from three or four minutes to just half that time. It also boasts less three minutes of commercials and ensures the listener does not get bored.

AMP Radio becomes the first large market station to use the Quickhitz format, which will see it play 24 songs per hour as opposed to 12 song.

The format was first launched in the United States in 2012 and reaction has been mixed. It will be interesting to see if this new format will be a hit with listeners or if it will flop. In any case, it does say a lot about our ever increasing lack of attention span and the changing marketplace that is trying to adapt.
