John Spinello’s game Operation was one played by children all over the world for years as they tried to “operate” on a patient without touching the metal edges and creating a buzz. Spinello sold the invention in 1964 for $500 and it was then licensed to Milton Bradley, modified and released a year later.

Friends of Spinello’s have now launched a crowd funding campaign to help raise money for the inventor so he can undergo a medical procedure. The goal is to reach $25,000 for the surgery, which Spinello cannot afford because he does not have sufficient insurance coverage. Game lovers are also asked to send Spinello words of encouragement on the website www.ILoveOperation.com.

As of Wednesday afternoon the fundraising campaign had received 75 per cent of its fundraising goal. To donate or learn more click here.
