An elderly Kelowna woman was rear ended Thursday morning on Highway 97 in the second hit and run to take place in the city.

Kelowna RCMP say the woman is lucky to be unhurt when just before 11:30 a.m. her Mazda Protégé was struck from behind while she waited at a red light. The 81 year old says she heard tires squealing behind her and let her foot off the brake just before a fully loaded logging truck struck her.

Her vehicle was pushed through the intersection and according to police the logging truck continued northbound down the highway without stopping. The woman was checked by paramedics at the scene and luckily avoided injury. The suspect vehicle is described as a logging truck, with a full load of timber and is likely to have front end damage.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP, Cst Chapman, at 250-762-3300. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
