Sandhill Winery Unveils Downtown Urban Winery

Sandhill Winery will have an official grand opening celebration this weekend to unveil its new urban winery in downtown Kelowna.

It took 10 months to construct but the 8,000 square foot building is finally completed at 1125 Richter Avenue. “This Sandhill Winery renovation has been our vision for a long time, so seeing it come to fruition is very satisfying,” says Howard Soon, Master Winemaker. “Sandhill has been part of the Kelowna community for almost two decades. In fact, this is the very spot where I have been making wine since Sandhill was born. It’s a dream come to true to have space where we can welcome visitors and tell our story.”

Media, business owners and other wineries attended a soft opening of the building on Wednesday and were treated to an exclusive look. The modern design and clean lines give a feel of luxury to the urban winery. Soaring ceilings and 80 year old wood beams surround the building, with the main focus a large glacier sculpture that pays homage to the Okanagan Valley’s geological features and history.

Virtual vineyard tours, a wine lounge and a small lots barrel cellar are just a few of the features of the new space. A tasting bar will offer guests a sample of the wines from the six vineyards throughout the Okanagan. Sandhill Winery will also be offering three daily wine education sessions for those looking for a deeper learning experience.

The winery, which is located in the Calona Winery, will be open all year round and carries all Sandhill wines. During the grand opening weekend guests will be given complementary tastings.
