The Open Air Market proposed for the corner of Springfield and Benvoulin Road in Kelowna will be back before City Council Monday during their regular meeting.

The Granville Island style market will receive final adoption if approved by City Council moving it one step closer to becoming a reality. Located at 230 Benvoulin and 2190 Mayer Roads the public market could house artisan work, carnivals, farmers' markets, breweries and distilleries, shopping and more.

The proposal to house a public market first came to council in November 2011, went to public hearing in July 2012 and has received approval from provincial officials. The Mission Crossing will need to be commercially developed within three years’ time and must include the farmers’ market infrastructure according to the Agricultural Land Commission’s review.

The market would cover about nine hectares of land and according to City Agriculture and Environment Director Shelley Gambacort all requirements have been met to proceed with the project. It is expected the market will receive final approval on Monday.
