More out of province firefighters have been requested from the Wildfire Management Branch as fires continue to rage throughout the province.

An additional 200 fire suppression personnel will make their way to BC to help. On Saturday 40 firefighters from Quebec, 20 from Nova Scotia, and 20 from New Brunswick will arrive to help. Another 120 from Ontario will arrive in B.C. on Sunday, July 20th. All personnel will be flown into Prince George and deployed out based on current fire activity.

These additional resources will join the more than 1,500 provincial staff, 800 B.C. contractors and 94 out of province personnel already helping with the fire response.

The Smith Creek Fire remains at 250 hectares and is estimated to be 20 per cent contained. Evacuation orders and alerts remain in effect for more than 2,500 residents in West Kelowna. There are currently 17 fires of note burning in the province and 41 fires larger than 10 hectares in size burning in B.C.
