Kelowna Couple Trashes Wedding Dress During Run in Colour

This year's Run in Colour splattered something a bit more expensive than the average white t-shirt.

While trashing wedding dresses has become a new fad to get hilarious photos, most opt for activities like jumping into lakes and getting covered in mud. Fiona and Trevor Warren's take on the idea is probably one of the most interesting Kelowna has seen.

While raising money for the hospital and being covered in colour, Fiona Warren was wearing her original wedding dress from her marriage three years ago. According to her, the couple had wanted to trash the dress “since the day after we got married, but this just seemed like a good opportunity to do it.” Trevor Warren was also wearing a tie, though he made his outfit a bit more sporty for the heat.

Though not everyone was as extravagant with their outfits, Saturday's second annual Grant Thornton 5K Run in Colour was a great success. All the money raised went towards state-of-the-art equipment for Kelowna General Hospital's brand new Interior Heart and Surgical Centre.

Runners generally wear white t-shirts and run through colour stations where they're doused with clouds of colour by volunteers. The route runs along the waterfront in downtown Kelowna, and Saturday's weather was perfect for the event.

CEO of the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation Doug Rankmore said that though the final numbers weren't in, he estimated that there were approximately 700 participants. According to Rankmore, the whole family is able to participate in this event, as shown by the children in costumes and even children in strollers.

He also wanted to thank the residents of Kelowna for all their support. “Kelowna's a really generous community. They're really behind their hospital,” said Rankmore. “Everybody in the community, everybody in the Interior, benefits from their support, so we want to thank everybody for coming out.”
