West Kelowna Wins Award for Being Excellent Employer

The District of West Kelowna has been recognized for their successful support of technology professionals.

The Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC) honoured the district with the 2014 Employer Award for Career Enhancement and Success of Technology Professionals. The award was given out at the ASTTBC annual awards and recognition celebration in Vancouver on November 1.

“This is a great honour for the District. Our practice has always been to require employee candidates for our engineering-related positions to be members, or eligible to be members, of this organization, as well as meeting all the qualifications for the position,” says Mayor Doug Findlater. “We know that the ASTTBC examines and approves candidates for membership based on education and experience and helps us ensure that we are recruiting the most qualified and competent employees in the field. It is great to know that this practice of ours is appreciated by this professional organization.”

West Kelowna has eight members of the ASTTBC in their employ at the moment and are currently recruiting for another. The district also gives on-the-job training to co-op students enrolled in Civil Engineering.

“As Premier of the Province of British Columbia, it is my great pleasure to join with the Applied Science technologist and technicians of BC in congratulating you on being recognized as a 2014 recipient of the Employer Award,” says Premier Christy Clark in a letter to Mayor Findlater. “This is no doubt a great honour for the District of West Kelowna, and one for which you and everyone in the District should feel proud.”

ASTTBC has 10,000 registered technology professionals.
