KelownaNow reached out to all mayoral, council and school trustee candidates running in Kelowna’s and West Kelowna’s 2014 Civic Election and asked them questions submitted by you, the reader.

1. What career experience do you have to be a Kelowna City Councillor? Please provide a specific example of a decision you made that affected the community.

My ability to listen, evaluate and reason will enable me to communicate with the voting public.

2. How many council meetings have you attended prior to announcing your candidacy?

None

3. There are so many buildings sitting empty along Bernard Avenue in downtown Kelowna, what are you going to do to attract businesses to the core and help them survive.

The downtown Kelowna is loaded with local residents with everyday needs; the business community will determine how to address those needs and provide them.

4. There’s a lot of emphasis on downtown development, but what about the other town centres. What’s your plan to have business thrive throughout Kelowna?

See above. All areas are relevant to the public needs, and the businesses will adapt and accommodate public needs.

5. What is your plan to encourage people to take advantage of the underutilized parkades and parking lots in downtown Kelowna?

Awareness of the parkade locations, the rates.

6. How will you help support the growth of the arts and cultural scene in Kelowna?

Encouragement of the arts and cultural scene availability should begin early at home and schools; this allows the recognition and appreciation of the arts and cultural areas.

7. How will you increase the variety of affordable and accessible events in Kelowna?

The public need only search the entertainment sections and make choices that meet their needs and expectations.

8. How can you make Kelowna more financially viable for young adults and families?

Exploration of affordable housing.

9. What are you going to do to encourage more affordable housing and less luxury living in Kelowna?

10. Where are our alternative modes of transportation going in the future years to come?

11. How do you feel about Kelowna’s current financial state? What improvements would you make?

Making budget.

12. What would be your number one priority for the next four years as a Kelowna City Councillor?

To gain the trust of the electorate; thus enabling me to gain their opinions and knowledge to allow me to make informed decisions on their behalf.
