Man Killed in Icy Okanagan Connector Crash Identified

BC Coroners Service have confirmed that 62-year-old Lawrence William Renaud of Peachland was the man killed in the tragic accident on Highway 97C on Saturday.

Renaud was riding as a passenger in a pickup truck at around 1:45 p.m. Saturday when the vehicle lost control and rolled down 30 metres down an embankment. Renaud was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The 50-year-old female driver was airlifted to hospital, where she was then treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened around 35 km away from Westbank, near Brenda Mines on a section known for black ice. Road conditions were noted as icy, and speed is not thought to be a factor in the accident. The highway was closed for almost four hours following the incident.

Both RCMP Traffic Services and BC Coroners Services are still investigating into the crash.
