Tell City of Kelowna What You Want for the Mission's Roads

An open house about roads in Kelowna's Mission is inviting residents' input on some proposed projects.

On Wednesday, November 26 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., drop by the City of Kelowna's open house at the Capital News Centre to learn about how Kelowna plans to reprioritize road network plans. “The City has received a developer proposal to accelerate the construction of South Perimeter Road from Gordon Drive to Stewart Road West approximately 10 years ahead of schedule,” says director of business ventures, John Vos. “Council has asked staff to engage the community to hear firsthand if this is acceptable.”

This project giving more access to the Mission could be in place as early as 2015, facilitating the establishment of the Pond's commercial village to link Crawford and the Ponds.

“The schedule could bump other projects for an additional three to six years, affecting the more notable road improvements on Casorso Road from Benvoulin to Bedford and Lakeshore Road from DeHart to Old Meadows. The exception of this of course is the Lakeshore Road adjacent to Anne McClymont Elementary School, which is already approved and is scheduled for 2015 pending land acquisitions,” says Vos.

You can also view the proposed reprioritization online under South Perimeter Road on the City of Kelowna's website. Residents can email in comments until December 7 to spr@kelowna.ca, or they can drop off their comments at City Hall at 1435 Water Street.

The Official Community Pan and 20 Year Financial Strategy has included the South Perimeter Road in the Southwest Okanagan Mission Sector Plan since 1995. The project is scheduled for construction in about 10 years.
