Kelowna RCMP have a 71-year-old suspect in custody after a fatal hit-and-run early Sunday morning.
Just after 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, a third party found an 83-year-old woman alone and with serious, extensive injuries at 580 Doyle Avenue in the alley between the Kelowna Daily Courier and the McWilliams Centre. They called 9-1-1 for an ambulance, and though the woman was rushed to medical attention, she died at the hospital.
The woman has been identified as Julie Gillespie of Kelowna.

Through their investigation, Kelowna RCMP discovered that the woman was struck by a vehicle that then did not remain at the scene. Police believe she was walking home on the sidewalk and was found shortly after she was hit.
Police currently have a 71-year-old Kelowna woman in custody for the incident. She was arrested late Sunday night, and she faces potential charges related to Failing to Remain at the Scene of an Accident.
