Vernon RCMP are investigating after a suspicious fire at the New Delhi Restaurant at 2905 29th Street.
Police were called just before 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning by Vernon Fire Services for a fire inside the Indian restaurant. The sprinkler system had been activated, meaning that the building has both fire and water damage. Both the owners of the business and the building owners have been notified.
According to Gordon Molendyk, spokesperson for the Vernon RCMP, the origin of the fire “appears suspicious in nature”. Police and fire investigators are working together to find the cause of the fire, and nothing has been ruled out yet.

This fire is just one of many in Vernon so far in 2014, with Molendyk saying that there's been 25-27 suspicious fires so far. No charges have been laid except against two individuals for the fire behind AJ's Pets.
Police are trying to determine if the fires are related, but links are difficult due to the diverse types of fires. Arsons have occurred in apple bins, residences, pallets, boats, tires, and now perhaps the New Delhi Restaurant.
Molendyk says that Vernon Police are continuing to investigate these numerous suspicious fires.
