Several Rock Slides Close BC Highways

UPDATE: Highway 22A has single lane alternating traffic and Highway 12 has been fully reopened.

Original Story:

There are several rock slides that have occurred on BC highways this week that have forced partial closures.

The first rock slide occurred on Highway 3 west of Keremeos on December 9th closing the highway in both directions. The highway has been partially reopened but there are still lane closures in the area and the speed limit is reduced to 60 kilometres per hour.

DriveBC has reported a rock slide 11 kilometres north of Lytton on Highway 12. The highway is closed in both directions and an assessment is currently in progress. There is a detour available in the area and motorists can use either Highway 1 or 99 to get around the closure.

Highway 22A, which is located six kilometres north of the BC and Washington border is also closed in both directions because of a rock fall. The location is just south of Trail and two very large boulders have landed on the highway completely blocking both lanes. No detour is available in the area.

There is also avalanche control taking place Friday on the Trans-Canada highway in Glacier National Park. From West Boundary to East Boundary closures can be expected for one to two hours between 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
