Man Allegedly Flashes Weapons, Then Offers Help in Kelowna

Kelowna RCMP are looking to identify a man after hearing of some rather peculiar behaviour that included the suspect allegedly pointing a gun at a young man.

On November 4, 2014 at around 12:30 a.m., an 18-year-old Kelowna woman and a 22-year-old Vernon man went to the parking lot of Willow Park Church on Highway 33 to retrieve a vehicle. As they pulled in, they saw a man near the entrance to the church on Highway 33. They also discovered when they arrived that the woman's car had a flat tire.

The Vernon man took out tools from the trunk of the car, turning around to find the man they'd seen earlier just a few feet away. This unknown suspect allegedly was pointing a black handgun at him, but the suspect put it away after asking if the young man was going to hit him with the tire iron.

The unknown suspect continued to hang out in the area as the pair changed the flat tire, and he even offered to help them at one point. The man's behaviour continued to be odd, and he allegedly pulled out a knife. However, he never otherwise threatened harm. After the pair had changed the tire, the suspect apologized and walked westbound down Highway 33.

Neither the man nor the woman was injured in this strange incident.

Police are looking to identify the suspect who's described as a Caucasian male with a heavy build. The man called himself “Damien” and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, a dark hoodie, baggy jeans, and a flat-brim ballcap.
