Consider Fat Cat Festival for Your Next Corporate Team Builder

The annual Interior Savings Fat Cat Children's Festival is fast approaching and will be celebrating its 25th Silver Anniversary this year. Each spring the festival is run with the help of over 200 volunteers, and Artistic Director Dorothee Birker says it's a fantastic opportunity for bonding among teams as well as for getting connected in the community.

"We are really hoping that we can get groups of volunteers to come out for the Festival and do some fun team building while they bring smiles to thousands of kids faces," says Birker. "Youth, church, sports, community and business organizations can volunteer as a group and take on specific areas to look after such as the Dog Pound, marshalling for the parade or running a fun Activity Station, or they can come as individuals and meet some new friends. Volunteering is one of the best ways to get and stay connected and we always have friendships that are cemented at the Festival."

The Fat Cat Festival has been growing ever since its inception in 1990, and many Kelowna residents who attended it as children are now able to bring their own families out to enjoy the fun. This event draws over 10,000 attendees from the Okanagan and beyond each year, and its school programme alone allows 1500 children from the Kelowna region to attend along with their classmates and teachers. This year the Festival will take place on June 12 & 13 at Waterfront Park, and Dorothee says it promises to be an especially exciting edition of the annual event.

"We have been busy planning and organizing a fantastic celebration that is chock-a-block full of stage performances, roving entertainment and incredible hands-on experiences," Birker added. "Now we really need the help of the community to sign up and take on key volunteer positions, including a Volunteer Team that can help coordinate the other volunteers."

More information about opportunities to get involved can be found online at www.fatcatfestival.ca or by contacting Dorothee Birker by phone at 250-860-4911 or by email at fatcatfestival@gmail.com. Recruitment is ongoing for Activity Stations and parade entries, as well as for volunteers who will take charge of coordinating other volunteers.
