SaskatcheWHAT Did you Say?!

If you are from Saskatchewan or know someone from the province, chances are you have heard some strange slang coming from their mouths.

It’s almost as though the prairie province has its own secret language and a market research firm is highlighting the slang in a new, funny video. Insightrix Research recently posted the Saskatchewan slang video on YouTube and it is getting a lot of attention. Have you ever heard of the word “gibbled” or “twofour” or “matrimonial cake”?

Well those are just a few common words heard around the province of Saskatchewan. Most people have heard of Saskatchewanians using the word “bunnyhug” instead of hoodie to describe a hooded sweatshirt. For those that do not know, gibbled is something that is broken or not working properly, twofour is a 24 pack of beer, and matrimonial cake is a sweet dessert with dates.

The video is laugh out loud funny, at least for someone like me who is originally from Saskatchewan! My favourite is fajolaki, it's what we call a beef or chicken marinated souvlaki served on a sub or torpedo bun. Found at Greek restaurants, the sandwich isn't actually Greek, just a Saskatchewan thing. Let us know what slang you grew up with in the comments below that may not be spoken here in Kelowna or British Columbia.
