The home invasion took place on Thursday during the early morning hours when the man was alone in his apartment in a residential building. The male suspect buzzed in at the reception door and identified himself as a City of Ottawa employee. The victim unwittingly let him in and the suspect asked for money at the veteran’s door. When the victim declined the suspect forced himself inside the apartment and tied the elderly man up.

The suspect then searched the apartment and left with several undisclosed items. Once the man left the home the victim managed to free himself and call police, he luckily did not suffer any physical injuries. Since the assault and robbery several tips have been received by police and now a video and images of the suspect have been obtained by officers.

He is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 50 years of age, approximately 6’0”, and 200 pounds, had a “pot belly”, fair complexion, a prominent nose, short grey hair, balding, and he possibly wore glasses.

He spoke English with no noticeable accent and was wearing a driver’s style cap, a black winter jacket, black pants, black boots, and black gloves. The suspect also carried a black bag that had a strap over his head.

The Robbery Unit has established a tip line to accept information with respect to this investigation.
