The new year marks a new beginning, specifically for new rules and bylaws that have been implemented to help find justice for Canadians affected by prostitution. On Friday, January 16th, members of the Hamilton Vice and Drug/Gang and Weapons Unit, arrested Milada Bendigova under the new prostitution legislation.
On December 17th, 2014, members of the Hamilton Police Service received information in regards to a 15 year old missing girl. Through investigation, police located the 15 year old in an apartment building in downtown Hamilton three, days later.
The young girl was interviewed by members of the Hamilton Vice/Human Trafficking Unit. The female disclosed that she had been working as part of an escort service for the past few weeks.
Based on the girl's information, police formed reasonable grounds to charge Bendigova. The 27 year old female from Hamilton, Ontario was charged with material benefit from sexual services, exercising control/person under 18 years of age, and advertising sexual service.
These are the first charges laid by the Hamilton Police Service under the new prostitution related legislation.
