It was a mysterious case for Sherlock Holmes, but the Halifax Police stole the crime solving spotlight.
On February 9th, Halifax police officers responded to a Dartmouth thrift store after an employee found several thousands of dollars hidden inside a bundle of folded drapes.
The wade of cash found in the drapes belonged to an individual who had passed away back in January. A woman has since come forward to claim the money. She donated the drapes without realizing the cash was wrapped up in the drapes.

The money was contained within several sealed envelopes and the information inside indicated that the money would have been withdrawn back in 2006.
Officers followed the clues and contacted the bank where the money was withdrawn. However, given the lengthy time period since the withdrawal, the bank couldn't provide any more information regarding the owner of the money.
After the clues went cold, Halifax issued a media release in an attempt to locate the owner.
A few weeks later, the woman mentioned above contacted the police and informed investigators that she had donated the personal belongings to charity.
After verifying with the woman and the bank that the money found in fact belonged to the person who passed away, the money was turned over to the next of kin.
