The Prime Minister has announced a change to his Ministry as the man in charge of fisheries, oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard seeks addiction treatment.
Effective immediately, Minister Hunter Tootoo will no longer serve in his role with the federal government.
According to a statement released by Justin Trudeau, Tootoo resigned from his position and will also be leaving the Liberal caucus.
“Mr. Tootoo will be taking time to seek treatment for addiction issues,” Trudeau said in the statement but did not go into further detail.
Dominic Leblanc will be assuming the role of Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, in addition to being Government House Leader.
The 52-year-old was appointed to his position in November 2015. During the October 2015 federal election, Tootoo defeating Conservative incumbent and cabinet minister Leona Aglukkaq.
