The Penguin Foundation in Australia recently put the call out for help with their Knits for Nature program.
The foundation looked for support for the little penguins by asking people to knit tiny jumpers to be used for rehabilitation, education and fundraising. The Foundation works with penguins on Phillip Island that are found sick or injured or affected by an oil spill. The knitted jumpers are used on penguins that are found with oil on them to prevent them from ingesting the toxic substance.
Less than a month later the Foundation received hundreds of the tiny sweaters as more than 300 people donated to the cause. They have been overwhelmed with volunteers taking up the challenge of knitting for the cute little penguins.
