Trump Defends Controversial Comments on Mexican Immigrants

Following news that NBC has cut ties with him, Donald Trump is standing by his statements made about Mexican immigrants.

“As of today, Donald J. Trump is no longer affiliated with NBC,” the Trump Organization confirmed. “Mr. Trump stands by his statements on illegal immigration, which are accurate. NBC is weak, and like everybody else trying to be politically correct—that is why our country is in serious trouble.”

NBC had severed ties after derogatory comments made in Trump’s announcement speech that he was seeking the bid for Republican nominations. Trump called Mexican immigrants “rapists” and claimed they were bringing crime and drugs into the United States.

In his reply to NBC, Trump continued to talk about how illegal immigrants are committing “great amounts of crime” and then started attacking NBC more directly.

“If NBC is so weak and so foolish to not understand the serious illegal immigration problem in the United States, coupled with the horrendous and unfair trade deals we are making with Mexico, then their contract violating closure of Miss Universe/Miss USA will determined in court,” said Trump.

Trump’s comments in his speech also sparked an open letter on Facebook that’s since gone viral. Adriana Almanza wrote to Trump to introduce him to her father. “It is no secret that he came here undocumented, unauthorized, or ‘illegal’ as you call it,” writes Almanza. “He worked his ass off in the fields.. traveling from state to state to find work. He helped provide for his parents and 9 siblings back home.”

She goes on to say that she has never heard him complain about his work and has worked five to six days a week since she was a kid. “He doesn't drink. He doesn't use drugs. He is certainly not a criminal, rapist, or drug trafficker, as your speech suggested.”

Now, Almanza says she has a Master’s degree and a rewarding career. “We are not rich in wealth, sir. But we are rich in what matters.. knowledge, culture, & faith. We come from humble beginnings.. and every year we are reminded of that when we travel to Mexico to visit our beautiful family. To us, THAT is what matters.”

Dear Mr. Donald Trump, I'd like to take a minute to introduce you to my father, Raul Almanza. As you so eloquently put...

Posted by Adriana Almanza on Monday, 22 June 2015

“Perhaps you should get to know more people like my dad; there are millions just like him. Then, you'd see for yourself .. & instead of bashing Mexico.. you'd thank Mexico.. for sending us their ‘best’.”

Almanza’s original post has since been shared more than 144,000 thousand times.
