Vancouver Ranked 3rd Most Liveable City in the World

The Economist magazine has released its annual list of the best places to in the world to live and a Canadian city has landed in third spot.

The annual liveability index puts eight of the ten most comfortable places in the world in Australia, Canada or New Zealand.

A total of 30 factors were crunched including safety, healthcare, educational resources, infrastructure and environment. A total of 140 cities were looked at and according to the study livability has declined in 51 places over the past five years.

According to the index the most liveable city in the world is Melbourne, Australia followed by Vienna, Austria and Vancouver. Toronto and Calgary come in fourth and fifth spot with Calgary tied with Adelaide, Australia. According to researchers the top cities have not changed much over time.

The Economist notes that they “tend to be mid-sized cities in wealthier countries with a relatively low population density.” Hence those living in London, San Francisco and Shanghai must endure the rat-race, and dream of dwelling amid Viennese coffee houses or Vancouver’s sailing and skiing.
