If you recently purchased a new iPhone 5 and noticed that your battery life is terrible there’s good news from Apple.
According to Apple some devices sold between September 2012 and January 2014 have a battery problem leading to a shorter battery life. If you purchased a phone during this time you may be eligible for a battery replacement on your phone free of charge. Apple says as of August 22nd, 2014 the replacement process will begin for customers in the U.S. and China. In other countries, including Canada, it will be available as of August 29th, 2014.

Your iPhone will need to be examined prior to any service to verify that it is eligible for the replacement program and that can be done by going to an authorized dealer, Apple retail store or by contacting technical support. Owners of the iPhone 5 who are having issues can input their phone’s serial number on Apple’s page to see if they qualify for the battery replacement.
“If your iPhone 5 has any damage such as a cracked screen which impairs the replacement of the battery, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the battery replacement. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the repair,” reads the statement from Apple.

If you believe your iPhone 5 was affected by the battery issue and paid to replace it Apple is also issuing a refund for those customers.
