The University of Cambridge has released a video depicting just how amazing our bodies are. The video delves into the world of a white blood cell as it hunts down and kills cancer cells looming underneath our skin.
Released on the University’s YouTube channel on Tuesday, the video captures the behaviour of cytotoxic T cells—the body’s serial killers. Deemed as the Cancer Assassin, these white blood cells can be seen eliminating cancer cells right before your eyes.
Using precision and efficiency, the video explains how millions upon millions of T-Cells engage in battle against infected cells to keep our bodies healthy.
After finding infected cells, the assassin cells kill their enemy using poisonous proteins.
“The T-cell punctures the surface of the cancer cell and delivers its deadly cyto toxins,” said the video. “This is very important in our bodies, where cells are packed together, because it focuses the lethal hit on the target and limits collateral damage to neighbouring healthy cells.”
Needless to say, it’s a pretty amazing video to check out. You can watch the whole thing here.
