Former Vancouver Reality Star Ordered to Pay Special Costs in Divorce Case

Former Vancouver reality television star Jody Claman has been ordered to pay costs to her ex-husband for her “reprehensible” conduct.

Claman was one the stars of the television show Real Housewives of Vancouver and was going through a divorce with her husband Eran Friedlander. The TV star tried to manipulate and lie to a B.C. Supreme Court judge during the proceedings and has been ordered to pay special costs as a result. Justice Miriam Gropper released her judgement on Tuesday saying that Claman had blameworthy and reprehensible conduct, as stated by Friedlander.

Friedlander went on to say that Claman tried to mislead and deceive the court, disobeyed court orders and used delay tactics wasting the courts time. Gropper agreed with the statements saying “While Ms. Claman’s delay tactics would not, in themselves, justify an award of special costs, these actions are part of the bigger picture of Ms. Claman’s reprehensible conduct throughout the proceedings.”

As a result she must pay Friedlander $593,893 for family assets and $9,800 for special and extraordinary expenses. Claman’s claim for spousal support was dismissed by Gropper.

“Ms. Claman’s actions point to more than a mere finding against her credibility,” said Gropper. “I find that she deliberately attempted to mislead and deceive the court on numerous occasions and that such deception, when viewed along with the conduct described below, justifies an award of special costs against Ms. Claman.”

The couple separated on September 10th, 2013 after about six years of marriage. The couple have one child together, which the pair shares joint custody of. Friedlander has been given the final say on things such as education for their daughter.
