A new art kiosk is soon to be set up in the departures lounge of the Kelowna International Airport (YLW), and Thompson Okanagan artists have until Sunday, October 11th to submit their works for sale.
“This is not an art show,” said Julia Trops, Sukwtemsqilxw West Kelowna Arts Council (SWAC) Chair. “The goal of YLW’s art kiosk is to sell works and generate revenue for our local artists.”
Works will be chosen for quality by a blind jury. The fee for submission is $30, and that includes a membership to SWAC.
“There aren’t very many restrictions, other than price point, subject matter and size,” said Trops. “Artwork must be no more than $200, original and Okanagan-themed, creating a tangible memory for our visitors.”
The traffic through YLW is significant, and SWAC is saying that if even 0.5 per cent of all traffic buys a piece of artwork priced at $200, $1 million in revenue will be generated for our local artists.
Certain works will also be sold by YLW’s concessionaire, Skyway, in exchange for a 25 per cent commission fee.
