Sugar High, A Layman's Perspective

Everyone would like to be more healthy, or at least try to get on a healthy path in life. The only problem is, this can be difficult and expensive in the current modern world we live in.

Sugar appears to be a major culprit for many people that sabotages their goal of living a healthy life. Sugar is disguised and or labels are hard to read or understand the amounts of sugar found in the item.

Sugar is often only listed as grams per volume that is being measured. We have made this quick, off the cuff video to help you visualize the amount of sugar that is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the amounts found in some common items.

The World Health Organization recommends a daily calorie intake of 5 percent or for an adult of a normal body mass index (BMI), that works out to about 6 teaspoons -- or 25 grams -- of sugar per day.

If you take a close look at labels, they never list the percentage of recommended daily intake for sugar, just the amount in grams. The key thing to remember when trying to decipher labels is that four grams of sugar equals one teaspoon of sugar and WHO recommends that you consume no more than 25 grams per day or six teaspoons.

The video below is far from scientific and just a layman's perspective. We do hope it helps you visualize the amount of sugar you may be consuming.

As always when making changes to your health routines, consult your doctor or other health professional.
