Third Child Luring Incident Reported in West Kelowna

Kelowna RCMP has officially expanded the child luring warning first issued by police on Monday.

Two similar but seemingly unrelated incidents have occurred in West Kelowna and the warning now includes the Central Okanagan. On March 3rd at around 7:15 p.m. West Kelowna RCMP received a report of a suspicious occurrence on Westlake Road near Stevens Road. According to police two 15 year old West Kelowna boys were walking in the area just before midday when an unknown man offered them a ride in his red pick-up truck.

The boys declined the offer and kept walking, but the man drove around the traffic circle and retuned to them and told them to get in. The boys ignored the man and kept on walking. No vehicle plate number was obtained and the description of the man is limited, but the truck he was driving is somewhat unique.

The driver is described as: a Caucasian male; 50 to 60 years of age with short grey hair. The vehicle is described as a pickup truck with a red body and a white stripe from the front to rear wheel wells. Police are looking to speak with anyone who might be able to identify the driver.

RCMP say another incident occurred on February 13th in which a 10 year-old West Kelowna boy was walking in the area of Westlake Road and West Kelowna Road when an older man in an older, black, boxy car offered him a ride. The boy said no to the man and he then drove away. The description of the man is limited but he was seen wearing a Fedora-style hat with a large chain around his neck.

Police have no information to suggest that these two incidents are related, or that they are related to the one that occurred in Kelowna on February 26, 2015.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
