Emergency crews needed to respond quickly when dealing with a semi-truck fire this morning on the Coquihalla Highway.
According to Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Captain Shawn Davidson, the blaze started in the engine of a diesel tanker. Crews fought the blaze near Inks Lake turnoff, just outside of the River City.
"Engine 7 went to a call for a truck fire," said Davidson. "Turns out that it was a diesel tanker that had caught fire, the engine had caught fire."
Davidson mentioned that the fire only took between five and 10 minutes to extinguish. Travellers had to deal with some delays on Hwy 5 while KFR fought the blaze.

"We sent an extra engine and a tender to back it up, just in case, considering what it was hauling. It was confined to the engine compartment and crews put it out with one tank of water."
At this point, the cause of the fire is unknown.
