Some students at Dr. Knox Middle School in Kelowna are using technology itself to fight back against the threat of cyberbullying.
Grade 9 students in Video Production at Dr. Knox have created a collection of short films on cyberbullying, a project that they hope will help make a difference in the lives of those around them. “These students recognize that cyber bullying is a very real threat to youth and are hoping to pay their messages forward to do some good in the community,” says Bruce Watts, Video Production teacher at Dr. Knox.

The videos are intended to raise awareness leading up to Pink Shirt Day on February 25th, an event started by two Nova Scotia high school students who took a stand against bullying at their school.
The films are targeted towards middle school or elementary school audiences, dealing with issues such as name calling through texting or other apps, sensitive photos being distributed by bullies, and the isolation of transgender students. Back in January, a survey showed that cyberbullying was the number one issue of concern for Canadian parents.
